Apart from freeing the central administration of corrupt practices, irregularities and misuse of power, the government has also started taking disciplinary actions against field level dishonest officials and staff accused of such illicit practices.
According to Ministry of Public Administration, in last 10 years, 2,748 officials,serving in various districts and sub-districts (Upazilas), have so far been brought to books for various allegations including corruption, irregularities and scandals related to women.
Of them 365 officials and employees have already been found guilty by the Ministry through investigations conducted recently. Subsequently, departmental cases have also been filed against those 365 officials and employees. Not only that 67 of them have already been rewarded with severe punishment, 126 with light punishment and rest 159 others have been suspended.
It should be mentioned that such allegations of various irregularities, corruptions and immoral activities against a large number of field level administration officials are being submitted to the cabinet division.
However, sources said that, in many cases, the allegations are not being possible to establish as senior batch officials of the same cadre are being appointed to investigate into the allegations.
Even after that, the Ministry of Public Administration allegedly is not taking action against those accused officers due to various lobbies. As a result, the trend of such type of crimes among the officials is increasing due to lack of exemplary punishment.
An official of the Ministry of Public Administration on condition of anonymity said that in last 10 years around 2,750 officials and employees have managed to escape legal actions against them exerting influence and lobbying.
In this regard, Public Administration Secretary Sheikh Yusuf Harun said officials of Assistant Commissioner of Land (AC-Land) level work under the Ministry of Land. They could better explain it why no actions are being taken. Besides, the Cabinet Division takes actions against the field administration officials. They would also be able to make it clear.
