Govt extends selling of essential commodities to Ctg, Khulna

Department of Agricultural Marketing under the Ministry of Agriculture is selling essential commodities, including agricultural products, at subsidized price through OMS programme at a total of 45 points in Dhaka, Khulna and Chittagong cities.

 The present interim government launched OMS programme for low income people initially on October 15 at 20 points in the capital city. Later, the government has taken steps to sell essential goods at 10 more points on October 18 in city’s area.

 The government decided to extend the OMS programme to Khulna and Chittagong after getting huge response from the low income people to the programme in Dhaka. 

Later, Department of Agricultural Marketing launched the OMS programme at five points in Chittagong on October 22 and later, at another five points on October 27.

 In Khulna, the government opened OMS programme at five places on October 28.

Director General (DG) of Department of Agricultural Marketing Md. Masud Karim told BSS that the government has taken steps to sell different items, including eggs, potatoes, onions, papayas, green chilies at subsidized price in different markets to reduce people’s economic hardship.

The Department of Agricultural Marketing are selling eggs at Tk 110 per dozen, potato at Tk 30 per kg, onion at Tk 70 per kg, green papaya at Tk 15 per kg, potal at Tk 30 per kg, corolla at Tk 40 per kg, cucumber at Tk 15 per kg, gourd at Tk 20 per piece.

 The prices of essential agricultural products witnessed a rise due to the recent floods that damaged a lot of vegetable farm lands in 13 districts, leading to less supply causing sharp rise in price of vegetables, said Department of Agricultural Marketing.
