Even amid frequent drives by the law enforcing agency and national consumer rights protection department in the district, miscreants are not sitting idle. Rather, they have geared up their evil activities to run brisk business.
Now Jhenidah district is floating on government supplied drugs meant for distributing among the patients in district and upazila level hospitals, community clinics and health sub centers.
Depriving people from free drug supply, they are also involved in supplying contra banned drugs smuggled from outside the country. Huge quantity of fake medicines are also selling in different markets that has thrown the Medicare facilities in a jeopardy.
RAB personnel seized huge quantity of government drugs and contra banned medicine form a house at Chaklapara in the Jhenidah town on Sunday afternoon. The price of the seized drugs was primarily estimated for an amount of Taka 30 lakh. RAB men arrested the house owner Dipak Kumar Biswas in this regard.
RAB 6 company commander ASP Masud Alam said they were informed that Dipak Kumar Biswas was storing govt drugs and contra banned medicines at his home at Chaklapara. Assistant Director of National Consumer Rights Department Suchandan Mandal was also present during the raid conducted by RAB.
Meanwhile, Jhenidah district administration, national consumer rights protection department and RAB had conducted mobile courts in three medicine shops, Bandhan Pharmacy at Casttle Bridge area, Asad Pharmacy at Arappur and New Tajmahal Pharmacy at KC College area in the town. During the drive the court found huge amount of fake medicine.
The court led by Executive Magistrate Hedayet Ullah fined Taka 1.01 lakh two to Bandhan Pharmacy and Asad Pharmacy, while sealed off New Tajmahal Pharmacy as the owner of the drug store went into hiding. Earlier on Sunday evening fake medicine were seized from Jhenidah HSS Road and Sheikhpara Bazer of Shailkupa upazila.
To ensure proper supply of government drugs through government hospitals and ensuring treatment with safe drugs, law enforcing agencies have been seizing date expired and contra banned medicines while arresting the vendors in the district. The process will continue until the evil activities stop.
