A single LNG cargo worth Tk 609,27,65,897 was approved for purchase on Wednesday by the government, which was presided over by Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali.
This marks the 21st LNG import initiative of 2024 under the Rapid Increase in Supply of Electricity and Energy Act, 2010.
Following a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement, Secretary Md. Mahmudul Hossain Khan informed reporters that approval was granted to import LNG from M/s Accelerate Energy LP, USA, selected through a quotation collection process under the Act. The price per MMBTU of LNG will be USD 13.56, up from USD 12.97.
He clarified that the decision was based on a proposal from the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, highlighting the necessity to meet energy demands amidst rising prices.
