The government has recently allocated a total of 31,490 blankets for the poor and distressed cold-stricken people of 65 unions and two municipalities in the seven upazilas of the district.
District Relief and Disaster Management Office sources said a total of 470 blankets have been allocated for each of the Union Parishad and Municipality.
They said the allocated blankets have already been sent to the upazila authorities and the concerned authorities have started to distribute the blankets among the cold-hit distressed people.
The sources added that the government also allocated TK 5,41,000 for each of the upazila and TK 6,41,000 for each of the municipality to buy blankets for the poor people.
Manikganj Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Abdul Latif said the Prime Minister's Relief Fund allocated the blankets to reduce the suffering of the poor people.
