A bridge between two river ghats in Jhenaidah and Rajbari could change the socio-economic state of the people and reduce their decades old sufferings of four districts.
Especially, it could save the valuable time of the passengers of said four districts Jhenaidah, Magura, Kushtia and Rajbari for travelling from and to the capital city in Dhaka.
Two lawmakers, like Abdul Hyee of Jhenaidah and Zillul Hakim of Rajbari had issued delivery order (DO) letters to take necessary steps to construct the bridge there, said both of the lawmakers.
A number of young and elderly people at Khulumbaria area in Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah when contacted at the river ghat said they have to cross the river Gorai with boat anyway which was risky in monsoon and storm. The students of a number of educational institutions cross the river on boat risking their lives every day.
A number of people including farmer, people’s representatives and educational institutions when contacted said at least 10 thousand people cross the Goral River at Khulumbaria point in Shailkupa and Keyagram point of Pangsha upazila of Rajbari district for their daily requirements. But the boat providing services is not a suitable means for smooth and easy communications as no motor vehicles can be carried on the boat.
The farmers said Khulumbaria Bazer is one of the most important business hub where the agriculture produces of Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah, neighboring Pangsha, Kalukhali and Rajbari Upazilas, a part of Kushtia sadar and Kumarkhali Upazilas of Kushtia and Sripur upazila of Magura are taken to the market. But each and everybody faces troubles during crossing the river.
Rashedul Kabir, principal of Kalimahar Degree College in Pangsha upazila said about 100 students from neighboring Shailkupa, Sripur of Magura and Kushtia sadar upazila attend the classes crossing the Goral River on boat. It has been killing the learning hours of the students and they have to pay additional money for the purposes.

If a bridge could be constructed between Khulumbaria and Keyagram Riveghat, the destination from and to Dhaka could be reduced to 75 percent. The passengers from Jhenaidah could reach Dhaka within three and a half hours without any hassle. Further, the transportation cost might be reduced at least 25 percent. The bridge could earn huge revenue at the hub, UP chairman Shahriar Sufal Mahmood said.
Lawmakers Abdul Hyee of Jhenaidah and Zillul Hakim of Rajbari when contacted said they had issued Damy Official (DO) letters to the concern ministry to take necessary steps to construct the bridge between Khulumbaria and Keyegram point when the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been ensuring structural development even at remote areas. The proposed bridge might add some benefits for the people of a number of districts, especially Jhenaidah and Rajbari, they said.
