Government have ordered to implement a week long lockdown to prevent the second wave of Covid-19. Like other districts, Gopalganj administration is trying to maintain the lockdown successfully in Gopalganj.
Seasonal fruit sellers and local traders are facing a huge distress due to the lack of transportation.
Watermelon farmers and sellers in the district are facing hard times as these peri shable fruits have to be transported to local vendors of other districts.
As there are no adequate storage system to store seasonal fruit, wholesalers in the area are now in distress.
Gopalganj Fruit Sellers Committee president Nazmul Islam said to Bangladesh Post correspondent that watermelon and muskmelons are perishable fruits so sellers cannot keep these for long period of time.
As Gopalganj town lacks the facilities to store a huge amount of fruits, many of these will rot if not transported immediately.
‘We urge authorities to allow us transport and sell these fruits till 6pm to save a huge financial opportunity.
Our sellers can maintain hygiene regulations. We are wating for a positive feedback,” he said.
