District Detective Branch (DB) police detained two gold smugglers and seized four gold bars, weighing 4 kg and 25 gram, worth around Tk 4 crore from Darshana area in Chuadanga on Wednesday.
The detainees are Rezaul, 48, son of Rohel Mondol, resident of Shyampur village in Darshana and Israfil, 32, son of Yusuf Ali.
DB police sources said acting on a tip off, a team of them were going to conduct a drive. Meanwhile, they suspected a motorcycle and followed it. They signaled the motorcycle to stop in Darshana Kachabazar area. The motorcyclists tried to escape the scene leaving their motorcycle. Later, they were chased and detained. Four gold bars were seized from Rezaul’s possession.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Nazim Uddin Al Azad went to the spot and talked to the journalists. He said the gold bars, weighing 4 kg and 25 gram, worth around Tk 4 crore, were seized from the detainee in front of the local people. Preparation was going on to file a case against them with Darshana Police Station.
