GO-NGO collaboration key to desired result in family planning

Collaborative efforts of all the government and non-government organizations concerned can be the crucial means of attaining desired yield in the activities of family planning.

There is no way but to make the family planning sector a total success for the sake of building Bangladesh as a happy, prosperous and smart country.

Administrative officials and other stakeholders made the observation while addressing a divisional workshop titled "GO-NGO Collaboration in Family Planning" at Rajshahi Inn Hotel in the city on Tuesday.

The Department of Family Planning (DFP) organized the workshop with participation of most of the government and non-government organizations working in this field in all eight districts under Rajshahi division. Commissioner of Rajshahi division Dr Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir addressed the opening session as chief guest, while DFP Divisional Director Dewan Morshed Kamal was in the chair.

Deputy Director of the Department of Health Services Dr Habibur Rahman, Chief Health Officer of Rajshahi City Corporation Dr AFM Anjuman Ara Begum and Union Parishad Chairman Abdullah Al Awal also spoke.

Rajshahi DFP Deputy Director Dr Kustary Amina Queen welcomed the participants.

DFP Deputy Director Zakia Akhter illustrated the aims and objectives of the workshop along with the present scenario of the department and its present needs during her keynote presentation.

She told the meeting that they are providing various reproductive healthcares, including maternal, antenatal, delivery, postnatal, neonatal, menstrual regulation, post-operative, maternal nutrition and adolescent reproductive, everywhere in the country.

Commissioner Dr Humayun Kabir said utmost emphasis should be given on ensuring planned family through discouraging unwanted pregnancy and child marriage everywhere in the society.

All the government and non-government organizations concerned and the community as a whole should come forward and work together to resist child marriage and child pregnancy as it's the precondition for improvement of child and maternal health. Dr Kabir said the present government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been implementing diversified programmes to free the society from child marriage.

Terming child marriage as gross violation of human rights he also said it is vital to increase awareness regarding the negative impacts of child marriage.
