Gazipur farmers happy over gourd farming

Cultivation of gourd is changing the fate of farmers in Gazipur. They are happy to get a good price from it.

Raihan Mia, 40, one of the gourd cultivators of Purba Dagari village of Gazipur sadar upazila said that he cultivated gourd on two bighas of land and received about one lakh taka by selling his products and cost TK thirty thousands.

He added that he had used cow dung as manure in producing gourds. But fertilizer is so costly.  The farmers of the village have been removing poverty by cultivating gourds like Raihan.  Farmer Raihan said that per piece of  gourd is selling for Taka 40 to Taka 50 in the local markets. Gourd farming is helping to change the fate of the local farmers.

Sabina Sultana, Gazipur sadar upazila agriculture officer told that the field level agriculture officers  and workers have been providing guideline to the farmers getting much production. She added that gourd have good demand in the market .Mahbub Alam , an agriculturist  of Dagari village said that female also can remove their poverty by cultivating Bari-1 variety  gourd  at house premises.
