Readymade garments industry of Bangladesh will occupy top position in the world market surpassing the competitors if appropriate policy support and favorable environment is ensured, the industry insiders expressed on Monday.
They said combined efforts of all the stakeholders is very much essential for this.
The speakers expressed these views at a discussion meeting titled "Crisis of the RMG industry in the current situation and ways to overcome it", organised by Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association (BGBA) at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon in the capital. Abdul Awal Mintoo, former president of FBCCI attended the discussion as the chief guest. While addressing Mintu expressed hope that the government will take initiative to solve the problem of this sector soon.
Vice chairman of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Anwar Hossain, BTMA President Shawkat Aziz Russell and senior business leaders addressed the meeting among others.
Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association (BGBA) president Mohammad Mofazzal Hossain Pavel presided over the meeting.
In his speech, the president said that garment buying houses are contributing about 12 billion US dollars to the export value of readymade garments industry.
Currently, buying houses are working as the backbone of the garment sector. Buying houses are playing an important role in the economic development of the country.
He also said that BGBA is a disciplinary and not-for-profit nationwide intermediary organisation of the garment industry. This organisation provides services related to the garment industry and the trade industry through the support of members in the international trade.
