Friendship, a development aid organisation, is supplying 500 liters of clean water per hour from flood water to the flood victims through a diesel-powered water purifier.
The organisation has launched a mobile water purification plant in the areas affected by sudden floods this time using previous experience in natural disasters,
Friendship medical team is also providing health care in Manoharganj of Cumilla and Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni.
Runa Khan, founder of Friendship for Relief and Health Care Programmes in flood-affected areas, said flash floods in greater Cumilla and Noakhali regions have added a different situation to the disaster in Bangladesh. Local residents are not at all familiar with such disasters. Therefore, the residents of 9 districts of Sylhet, Comilla and Noakhali have suddenly faced great losses due to floods.
These districts have high settlement and population rate. As a result, the number of people affected by disasters is also high. Considering the matter seriously, Friendship started health care and relief activities on an urgent basis.
Kazi Emdadul Haque, senior director of the organisation and head of climate activities department, led the health care and relief activities of Friendship in the flood-affected marginal areas at the field level. And health care is coordinated by the deputy director of the health department Rafi Abul Hasnat Siddique.
They said, in cooperation with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and ERICS, Friendship continues to work to ensure emergency healthcare and relief in flood-affected areas.
The organisation has been working intensively to alleviate the suffering of the affected people in coordination with the local administration.
Friendship officials said priority is being given to marginal areas in post-flood relief and rehabilitation. Because these areas are cut off from communication, normal relief activities are very limited.
The organisation has distributed 10 days food and hygiene kits to more than 1000 families in these areas. Four solar power stations have been installed for emergency power supply in flood-affected areas. Friendship continues to provide health care services at 16 locations for eight days at two locations every day.
The organization has planned to bring more than 40 thousand local residents under the health care in the two upazilas of Cumilla and Feni affected by floods.
