The French Embassy in Dhaka shared two photos highlighting two historic moments with Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

“We wish to express our joy to celebrate today the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and Bangladesh, following the very successful visit of the Hon’ble Prime Minister to France, which expresses the common desire to deepen further the relationship between our two countries,” said the Embassy in a message.

Bangladesh was recognised by France as a sovereign state on 14 February 1972. On 17 March 1972, Bangladesh opened its resident Diplomatic Mission in Paris.

According to the foreign ministry, France remains a major partner of Bangladesh within the European Union. France is currently funding various projects in Bangladesh led by the European Union. France is also directly supporting infrastructure development projects in Bangladesh through l’Agence Française de Développement (AFD).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid an official visit to France from November 9 November last year at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron.
