Freedom fighters' children want 30 pc quota in govt service

The children of freedom fighters, demanding the reinstatement of freedom fighters quota in government service, said that a 30 percent quota should be allocated for the children of freedom fighters and their next generation.

They made the demand at the harmony procession and discussion of Muktijoddha Sangsad Sontan Command on Wednesday. 

The event was organized at the South Plaza of the National Parliament on the occasion of the 20th founding anniversary of the Muktijoddha Sangsad Sontan Command. Muktijoddha Sangsad Sontan Command central president Mehedi Hasan presided over the discussion meeting and harmony procession.

Bir Bikram Mahbub Uddin Ahmed, who led the guard of honour given to the members of the Mujibnagar Cabinet, was present as the chief guest at the event.  Prof Abul Kalam Azad Patwari, Joint Secretary General of sector commander forum '71, Muktijoddha Sangsad Dhaka district unit commander Abu Saeed Mia and Dhaka metropolitan unit commander Md Shahidul Islam were present as special guests, along with others. Speaking as the chief guest, Mahbub Uddin said that the country has become independent at the cost of the lives of freedom fighters.

“It was not at all appropriate to cancel the quota system for the children of freedom fighters. By reinstating the quota in government service, 30 percent quota should be allocated for the children of freedom fighters,” he said. 

Abul Kalam Azad Patwari said that the biggest failure of the freedom fighters was not being able to protect Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members. 

“We fought the war of liberation in response to the call of the Father of the Nation, but we could not save him after the independence of the country,” he added. 

He called upon the administration to give respect and dignity to the freedom fighters and their descendants at all levels.

Earlier on Tuesday night, on the occasion of the founding anniversary of the organization, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque inaugurated the event by cutting cake at his official residence on Mintu Road.
