Four women teams to get voting rights

Centering the proposal of women’s voting power there was contradiction in the executive committee meeting of the Bangladesh Football Federation’s (BFF) on Friday.

There was an agenda of the executive committee to bring the proposal in the Annual General meeting of the BFF to include top four women’s football clubs as councilors to get BFF voting rights, But some of the members strongly protested against this.

Though the BFF decided to award voting rights to top four clubs of ongoing Women's Football League in the upcoming BFF elections, which is schedule to take place for November 2024, some of the members were not agree with that.           

The meeting did not approved the proposal of the professional league management committee to have a player of Under-18 mandatorily in the starting line-up of the Bangladesh Premier League teams. 

However, the meeting fixed the age of footballers in the Pioneer Football League (U-14), Third Division Football League (U-16) and Second Division Football League (U-20).

The bottom side of the ongoing ABG Bashundhara Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will be relegated to the BCL, second tier of the Professional Football League when Gopalganj Sporting Club also considered as the relegated team, as they withdrew the team from BPL in the last day of the players’ registration despite of making their entry.

Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan Manik, vice-president of the BFF told reporters after a three-hour meeting of BFF executive committee on Friday that they decided to award the councillorship and voting power top four women teams

Manik said, “One of the proposals was to increase delegations of Bangladesh Football Federation through the women's football league. The meeting decided to include top four teams of the ongoing league but it is subject to approval in the AGM. The AGM is scheduled to be held on June 29, 2024.”  

Meanwhile, in the last BFF elections in 2020, out of 149 delegates 139 had voting rights for electing a 21-member BFF committee.
