Four members of a family were killed and two others were injured as a bus ran over a private car in Gouripur Upazila of Mymensingh on Friday morning. The deceased and injured all are the private car passengers.
Injured Nahid, 3, and the Private car driver Selim were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
The deceased were identified as Rafiqul Islam, 45, owner of Madhabdi Bangla Textile, his wife Shamsun Nahar Shahana, 35, his son Nabil Islam, 18, and daughter Rawnak Jahan 13. They were the residents of Madhabdi Upazila of Narsingdi.
Rafiqul along with his family came to his in-laws-house at Madhupur in Ishwarganj Upazila of Mymensingh to celebrate Eid holiday.
Police and Fire Fighters said the accident took place when a Kishoreganj-bound speedy bus of MK Paribahan ran over the private car at Ramgopalpur area on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj Highway in Gouripur Upazila, leaving Rafiqul Islam’s wife Shamsun Nahar Shahana dead on the spot and five others injured.
Being informed, locals, police and the fire fighters rescued them and brought them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where Rafiqul, his son Nabil and daughter Rawnak succumbed to their injuries.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gouripur Police Station Qumrul Islam Miah confirmed the matter. Police seized the bus but its driver managed to flee the scene, the OC said.
