Four persons including two children were killed and another seven injured in a fatal road accident between three vehicles at Kotchandpur of Jhenaidah on Thursday morning. The accident occurred near Poura model college at Kashipur on Kotchandpur - Jhenaidah road. The deceased were identified as Khukumoni, 7, daughter of Shahin Uddin of Balakandar village of Kaliganj, rickshaw van puller Soleman Uddin, 60, son of Mokhles Uddin of Shahpur-Ghighati of same upazila, 11 months aged Rafan, son of Rubel Hossain of Elangi village in Kotchandpur and another unknown man. Kotchanpur police station officer in charge (OC) main Uddin when contacted said all the deceased and injured were marching towards Kotchandpur from a battery-driven van. At about 10.30 when they arrived near the spot, a speeding pick up van from the opposite direction had hit him head on leaving three dead on the spot. Police was preparing to file case and send the bodies to Jhenaidah Sadar hospital morgue for post mortem examination, OC said.
Fire fighters from Kotchandpur fire service and civil defence station rushed the spot and rescued both dean and injured. They sent all of them to local health complex. Medical officer of Kotchandpur upazila health complex (UHC) Dr Tarauni Pasha when contacted said they found three including two children dead. They had referred four injured to Jashore 250-bed general hospital for better treatment, while one unidentified had succumbed to his injuries on the way. Condition of three was stated to be critical, medical officer said.
