Former Chief Whip of the National Parliament, ASM Feroz, has been remanded for an additional three days by a Dhaka court in connection with the murder of Sohag Mia in the Vatara area of Dhaka. The order was issued on Saturday by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam after a hearing.
The investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Masudur Rahman of Vatara police station, had presented ASM Feroz in court and requested a seven-day remand. In response, Feroz's lawyer filed a bail application, seeking to cancel the remand. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted a three-day remand instead of the requested seven days.
ASM Feroz, an Awami League leader and eight-time Member of Parliament, was arrested on the night of August 23 in the Banani area of Dhaka. He was initially placed on a seven-day remand on August 24.
The case stems from the death of Sohag Mia, who was shot by police on July 19 in front of Farazi Hospital in Vatara during an anti-discrimination student movement. Sohag’s father, Shafayet Hossain, later filed a murder case
with Vatara Police Station on August 20.
