Most parts of Sylhet division have been inundated due to continuous heavy rains and floods. The people of these areas have been flooded for four days in a row. Apart from Sylhet, Thakurgaon, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Rangpur, Kurigram and surrounding areas have been submerged. About 5 million people are now stranded. These areas are now isolated from the rest of the country. Various upazilas, roads and houses of Haripur upazila and Sunamganj district of Thakurgaon are still submerged under water.
Relief items were distributed among the waterlogging people in Sunamganj and Haripur on Monday under the management of Alhaj Mostafa-Hakim Welfare Foundation and Alhaj Hosne Ara Manzur Welfare Trust and former Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation M Manzur Alam. A total of 3,000 relief items including rice, pulses, chira, sugar, soybean oil, biscuits, bread, food saline, candles were distributed among 2,000 helpless families in waterlogging people.
Manzur Alam said, "We go where the cry of humanity is. We are always dedicated to the welfare of humanity starting from natural disasters. We are always trying to be by the side of the helpless poor people including the recent BM depot fire in Sitakunda and various services during the epidemic. This is our initiative for the flood victims. "
Former Vice Principal of Mostafa Hakim College Badsha Alam, Akbarshah Thana Awami League Co-President Lokman Ali, Lecturer Nazrul Islam, Nurul Alam Bhutto and officials and employees of Mostafa Hakim Group distributed relief items on behalf of Manzur Alam.
