Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin said the new forest officials should work diligently in conservation of forests, wildlife and biodiversity in the light of modern technology and creativity by involving the people for tackling the risks of climate change and overall development of the environment. To achieve the SDGs, we need to work hard to achieve the goal of increasing forest cover to 16 per cent of the country's total land area by 2030 and increasing tree cover to 24 per cent by 2025. In order to meet the challenges of the 4th Industrial Revolution, we have to develop ourselves as skilled human resources and work resolutely to implement the policy of the government by preventing deforestation and deforestation.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the concluding ceremony of a two-month 'Orientation Course' for newly appointed Assistant Forest Conservators in the 38th BCS (Forest) Cadre at Chittagong Forest Academy here on Tuesday.
The Environment Minister said that the knowledge gained by the newly appointed Assistant Forest Conservators through this 'Orientation Course' would enhance their professional skills in forest management and play a vital role as a timely forest manager in addressing forest resource conservation and various challenges in the forestry sector.
The Minister further said that the new Assistant Forest Conservators have to play an important role in implementing the policies and programs adopted by the government in the face of climate change by applying their talents, knowledge and skills in the light of the knowledge and guidance gained in the training. Above all, we have to join the advancement of "Digital Bangladesh" by ensuring the application of information technology in modern forest management.
Chief Conservator of Forests Md. Amir Hossain Chowdhury presided over the function. Additional Secretary (Development) of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests (Education and Training Wing) Md. Mainuddin Khan and Director of Chittagong Forest Academy Md. Chanaullah Patwary were present as special guests on the occasion.
At the end of the ceremony, the Minister distributed certificates and crests among the 21 newly appointed Assistant Forest Conservators.
