The government food storage (LSD godown) at Kamargaon under Tanore upazila in Rajshahi was sealed off on Wednesday by the UNO of Tanore on the allegation of selling out some 60 metric tonnes of paddy of the godown by the OC of the LSD recently.
According to sources, acting on a tip off that 60 metric tonnes of government paddy stored at Kamargaon LSD godown has been sold illegally by Officer-in-charge of the LSD Nayan Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Hamidul Haque ordered Rajshahi district Food Officer Nazmul Haque and District Food Inspector Sihabul Islam to enquire into the incident.
Accordingly, district food officer and district food inspector with Upazila Food Inspector of Tanore went to the godown at Kamrgaon and by inspecting the stocks, found 6o metric tonnes of paddy missing. Following the enquiry report, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi ordered the UNO of Tanore to seal off the godown.
Susanto Kumar Mahato, UNO of Tanore informed, according to the directive of the Deputy Commissioner, Kamargaon LSD godown has been sealed off.
While commenting on the incident, Officer in charge of Kamaragaon LSD informed, according to the verbal instruction from Tanore Upazila Food Inspector 30 metric tonnes paddy each have been supplied to Shahriar Rice Mills and Mridul Rice Mills three-day ago but the Sanction Letter of the supplied paddy could not be prepared due to irregular presence of the Upazila Food Officer of Tanore in the office.
