Food minister calls for social boycott of drug addicts, dealers

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder has called for a social boycott of drug addicts and drug dealers.

The minister said that many compromise with drug dealers or pretend not to see them to retain votes. People's representatives should come forward to carry out cleansing campaign against drugs in every village, leaving aside the thought that the vote will decrease. Zero tolerance policy against drugs should be implemented.

The minister said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the workshop organized to build a social movement to prevent drug abuse at the Porsha Upazila Parishad auditorium on Saturday afternoon.

The food minister said that it is not possible to control drugs only by raiding, arresting or punishing. A social movement against drugs should be developed from each position. Now the drug dealers are spreading many new types of drug society, he said, these dangerous drugs are turning the youth society into ruins.

The Food Minister issued a strict warning against the abuse of drugs and said that no leader or activist of the district or upazila Awami League can make a recommendation on behalf of any drug dealer. If any activist goes to advocate on behalf of a drug dealer, he directs the administration to include his name in the charge sheet of the case.

Sadhan Chandra Majumdar said that the movement should start from the family to create a healthy nation and a prosperous Bangladesh by keeping the next generation free from the influence of drugs. 


He also called on people from all walks of life to work together against drugs.

Chairman Porsha Upazila Parishad Shah Manjur Morshed Chowdhury spoke as a special guest under the chairmanship of Porsha Upazila Executive Officer Salma Akter. Md. Fazlur Rahman, Additional Director of Rajshahi Divisional Office of Narcotics Control Directorate presented the main article in the workshop. Also Assistant Commissioner Bhumi Zakir Hossain,

Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zahurul Haque, Porsha Upazila Awami League President Anwarul Islam, General Secretary Mofazzal Hossain Molla and Nitpur Union Chairman Enamul Haque spoke.

Officials of various government departments, teachers' representatives, public representatives and media representatives participated in the workshop.
