Approximately 2,025 mobile towers operated by five mobile companies have become non-functional in 12 of the 15 districts in the northeastern part of Bangladesh due to the flood.

This has caused disruptions in mobile network services.

According to information from the Engineering and Operations Department of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), about 16.7% of towers were nonfunctioning by 5pm on Thursday.

Out of 12,179 towers, 10,154 are still operational.

Brigadier General Kazi Mustafizur Rahman, director general of the department, said that the most affected area is Comilla, with about 609 towers out of service.

Other severely impacted areas include Noakhali with 344 towers, Lakshmipur with 84, Feni with 466, Brahmanbaria with 32, Chandpur with 121, Chittagong with 194, Khagrachhari with 94, Habiganj with six, Moulvibazar with 42, Sunamganj with 24, and Rangamati with nine towers out of service.

In response, 10 V-SATs have been prepared with the assistance of the Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) to maintain constant communication with flood-affected areas. Five of these V-SATs have already been sent to Feni.
