The water level of Jamuna in Jamalpur has remained unchanged. As a result, out of 6 unions in 6 upazilas of the district, about 36 unions have been submerged in the flood waters and more than one lakh people have been trapped in the water.
According to District Primary Education Officer Abdur Razzak, teaching has been stopped in 8 out of 112 educational institutions due to the inundation of flood water. Zakia Sultana, acting deputy director of the district's agricultural extension department, said the floodwaters had inundated the district's aman seedbed, aus paddy, jute, vegetables, chillies, sesame and maize. Of these, 636 hectares are in Bakshiganj upazila, 500 hectares in Madarganj upazila, 922 hectares in Dewanganj upazila, 360 hectares in Islampur upazila, 148 hectares in Melandah upazila and 544 hectares in Sarishabari upazila. Jamalpur Sadar Upazila, 89 hectares of crops have been submerged in flood waters. In addition, many ponds have been submerged and fish farmers have been affected.
Dr. Pranoy Kanti Das, Civil Surgeon, Jamalpur, said that 60 medical teams have been kept ready to provide health services to the flood affected people. He said that although water had risen around the community clinics in the flood-hit areas, flood water had not yet entered the community clinics. As a result, health services are still in operation in these community clinics. On the other hand, a total of 350 MT of rice, Tk 6 lakh in cash and 4000 packets of dry food have been distributed in 6 upazilas for the unemployed poor families.
