Low lying areas of paddy fields and chili field in Jamalpur's several upazilas went under water due to untimely swelling of river Jamuna, raising worries among the farmers.
In three upazilas of Jamalpur, farms on several hundreds of hectares of cropland in shoal areas have mostly been inundated.
The char areas of Jamalpur -- Adra, Manikputol, Pigna, Bagmara, Dhanata, Nandina, Dakatitamada, Ghuramara, Fulpor of Sarishabari upazila, and Adervita, Kalibari, Balijuri, Shaymganj of Maderganj upazila, only Jhaugara of Melendah upazila, have been inundated for last four days as the water of the Jamuna suddenly rose up.
The untimely surge of water shattered the dreams of thousands of farmers in the areas.
Nayon Mondol of Sharishabari upazila said his three bighas paddy have already been ruined, adding that by taking loan from Grameen Bank, I have planted three bigha paddy.
Shajamal of Jhougara village in Melendah upazila said I have cultivated 5 bigha chili but 4 bighas of them went under water.
Korim Sheikh of Melendah upazila said, my seven bighas chili field were damaged by the flood waters.
Zakia Sultana , deputy director of the DAE in Jamalpur said they are yet specify how much land was submerged in the district and what will be the loss is unknown to them.
