Five meritorious students of University Laboratory School and College have been awarded Shahid Sheikh Russel Memorial Scholarship for their outstanding academic performances.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman distributed scholarships among the students as chief guest at a function today at the school auditorium, reports BSS.
Professor Akhtaruzzaman said Sheikh Russell, youngest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was killed along with most of his family members on 15 August, 1975 when he was a student of class IV at University Laboratory School.
The 15 August carnage was a barbaric act of massacre in the history which will be remembered forever,” he said. Director of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) Professor Syeda Tahmina Akhter, Acting Principal of University Laboratory School and College Mrs Selina Banu, among others, addressed it. The recipients of the scholarships are Nafisa Akter Tuli, Arafat Bhuiyan, Md Siam Islam, Sanjan Saha and Md Fihaj Alam.
