A Dhaka court on Saturday sent five accused to jail after their five-day remand period in a case lodged over the murder of Awami League leader Zahidul Islam Tipu and college girl Samia Afrin Prity at North Shahjahanpur area on March 24.
The accused were - Mohammad Omar Faruque, Nasir Uddin alias killer Nasir, Saleh Shikder alias shooter Saleh, Morshedul Alam alias Kailla Palash and Arfan Ullah Daman.
Police produced them in court after the five-day remand and the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case requested to keep them behind the bars till investigation of the case is completed.
Following the plea, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Farah Diba Chhanda passed the order to send them to jail.
Earlier, the court placed the five accused on 5-day remand each on April 3 as the IO police inspector Mohammad Yasin Sikder submitted an appeal to the court to place each of them on 10-day remand in the murder case. After hearing both the sides, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Syed Mostafa Reza Noor passed the five-day remand order on that day.
Tipu, who was on his microbus destined for his home, was shot dead by a masked assailant in the capital's Shahjahanpur area on the night of March 24.
A rickshaw passenger Samia Afran Prity was also killed in the incident. Besides, Tipu's driver Munna got shot in his hand during the incident.
Tipu's wife Farhana Islam Dolly filed the case with Shahjahanpur Police station on the same night.
