BNP-Jamaat terrorists torched at least five passenger buses at Maniknagar and Badda in the capital and in Gazipur on Wednesday.
Jibon Mia, an official of Fire Service Control room, said BNP-Jamaat activists set on fire three buses of Ekushe Express at Chowrasta in Maniknagar around 4:45pm.
Two buses were completely burnt and one was partially damaged by the fire.
Fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
No casualties, however, were reported, the OC said. Earlier in the morning, BNP-Jamaat men set ablaze a staff bus of Agrani Bank at Taltala of Dhaka's Khilgaon.
In a latest development, BNP and Jamaat activists also torched a passenger bus at Badda in the city on Wednesday evening.
Rozina Akter, duty officer of the Fire Service Control room, confirmed the incident.
She said that miscreants torched a bus of Baishakhi Paribhan at around 7:54pm.
Gazipur: Miscreants set fire to a covered van at Chandpur Bazar Road in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur district on Wednesday.
Miscreants carried out some 260 arson attacks till Wednesday evening since BNP-Jamaat and other like-minded parties started and hartal and blockade at end of October.
Meanwhile, a total of 156 platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed across the country to maintain law and order.
Shariful Islam, public relations officer (PRO) at the BGB, confirmed it.
Along with the BGB members, 422 patrol teams of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were deployed across the country.
Among them, 130 patrol teams were deployed in Dhaka to prevent arson attacks being carried out by BNP-Jamaat men.
RAB is working to ensure security of long-distance public buses and goods-carrying trucks in different parts of the country, said Imran Khan, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) at the media wing of RAB.
