Department of Environment on Monday fined five brick kilns Tk 27 lakh during a drive in Gurudaspur upazila in Natore district on the charge of violating environmental laws.
A team of the department, led by executive magistrate Faizunnesa Akhter, conducted the drive in the upazila and imposed the fine on Amjad-Mofiz Bricks, Bhai Bhai Bricks, MZB Bricks, MBP Bricks, and SAR Bricks.
Environment Department Inspector Borhan Uddin said that some parts of the kiln were demolished and the activities of the kilns were stopped in addition to the fine.
Owners have been asked to operate the kilns following laws in the future, he added.
