A fisherman in Dashmina upazila of Patukhali caught a 40-kg turtle on Wednesday afternoon who was fishing in Tentulia river.
It was learnt that, Bajlu Hawladar, a fisherman from Pater Char area, was fishing near Pater Char area in Rangopaldi union on Wednesday noon. While pulling up his net, he discovered the massive turtle. Bajlu brought the turtle ashore, drawing a crowd of locals eager to catch a glimpse of the rare sight. Later, the villagers released the turtle back into the river.
Bajlu said, fishing is my livelihood, and I fish in the Tentulia and Buragauranga rivers year-round. On Wednesday, as I was pulling in my net, I saw the huge turtle got caught in the net. I brought it onto my boat and kept it in the water. Once ashore, the locals suggested releasing it, so I did.
Eyewitnesses Md Shah Alam and Apu said it was their first time seeing such a large turtle. They mentioned that people gathered immediately to see it before it was returned to the Tentulia River.
