First consignment of Gobindabhog mango sent to Britain

First consignment of one tone of Himsagar verity of mango was sent to Britain from a Kaliganj village of Jhenaidah. The consignment was sent from the orchards of two farmers Habibur Rahman and Tabibur Rahman of Kashthabhanga of the upazila. Lawmaker of Jhenaidah-4 seat Anwarul Azim Anar had inaugurated the import event at as chief guest from the orchard on Tuesday morning.

Upazila parishad chairman Jahangir Siddique Thandu, upazila agriculture officer Mahbub Alam Ropni and upazila parishad vise chairman Shibli Noman present as special guests. 

Farmer Habibur Rahman when contacted said he had cultivated Gobindabhog, Himsagar, Amrapaly and Tilebombai varieties of mango this season. He came to contact of a fruit importing organization Global Trade Limited in Dhaka and later the officials of local department of agriculture extension (DAE) had assisted and extended all out support for nursing and grading of the importable mango. He said he is expected to import Lengra, Himssagar and Tilebombai in next phase gradually.  Upazila agriculture officer at Kaliganj Mahbub Alam Roni when contacted said local vendors have been procuring green mango at Taka 25 to 30 each kilogram, while the ripen ones might ensure double price within a few weeks. The farmers should consider their interest and ensure producing quality mango for export purposes. 

Lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar in his speech as chief guest said the farmers might change their fates producing better and importable variety of quality mango for export purposes and better prices even in local market as it has a potential throughout the country. It will help strengthen the socio-economic base of the farmers gradually, MP Anar said.
