A terrific fire broke out at a RMG Factory at Hemayetpur area in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital on Friday. The fire was brought under control after nearly two hours efforts. However, no casualties were reported in the incident as the factory was closed.
Witnesses and firefighters said that the fire broke out at about 1:30 pm in the warehouse of Aboni Knitwear LTD, a ready-made garment (RMG) factory of Babylon Group and the flames quickly spread to adjacent areas.
Liton Ahmed, senior station officer of Savar Fire Service said, “Receiving information, two units of firefighter rushed to the spot and started to douse the fire. Later, three more units joined because of the intensity of fire. The firefighters are able to bring the fire under control at around 3:40 pm after nearly two hours of the fire broke out.”
No casualties were reported, added he. But, the Fire service official couldn’t give the Cause of the fire or any estimates of damages. On the other hand, the authority of the factory refused to speak to reporters about the fire.
