Fire guts 11 houses in Teknaf

A total of 11 houses were gutted by fire in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Thursday. The affected house owners faced a loss of Tk 30 to Tk 40 lakh according to the initial estimation. 

The fire victims are identified as Abul Kashem Lalu, Syed Akbar, Abul Manjur, Noor Kamal Mistry, Sabbir Ahmed, Rashid Ahmed, Delwar Hossain, Abul Kalam Dhalu, Monir Ahmad, Abu Taher, Noor Ayesha.

It was learnt that that the incident occurred around 3.00 pm on Thursday afternoon after a fire started from a gas cylinder of a house at Ulubonia area under Whykong Union in Teknaf Upazila.

Locals said, flames suddenly came out from the house of Abul Kashem Lalu, a resident of that area, and the fire started to spread rapidly. The nearby people quickly gathered and tried to put out the fire. They informed the fire service as well. The locals managed to bring the fire under control after half an hour of effort. However, they were unable to put the fire out completely. 

Later, members of Fire Service and Civil Defence reached the spot and managed to extinguish the fire completely. In the meantime, 11 houses were burnt to ashes.

Principal Noor Ahmed Anwari, Chairman of Whykong Union Parishad, said the fire burnt down 11 houses in Ulubonia area. The matter was informed to the higher administration. The affected families will also be supported by the Union Parishad as well.
