A fire has broken out at a tissue factory owned by Meghna Group Sonargaon Upazila in Narayanganj.
At least 12 units from multiple fire stations are working to bring the fire, which erupted around 5am on Monday, under control, said Abdul Mannan, deputy assistant director of the Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence.
“The firefighting units were able to bring the fire under control after 9am. No casualties have been reported in the incident so far,,” said Mannan.
According to the employees of the factory, the fire broke out in a four-storey building on the factory premises which houses raw materials required to make tissue.
Initially, the factory’s internal firefighting crew attempted to contain the fire.
However, they were later forced to call the Fire Service and Civil Defence team when the flames spread rapidly.
Mannan said, “Multiple units are joining the efforts as the fire is spreading.
In addition, Meghna Group’s own fire service team is working to put out the flames. The cause and extent of damage will be determined after an investigation.”
