A fire broke out in the cardiac unit of Dhaka Shishu Hospital at Agargaon in the capital Friday.
Talha Bin Zasim, station officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters media cell, said the fire broke out in the hospital’s cardiac unit around 1:47pm.
Three units from the Mohammadpur Fire Station went to the scene when the fire was reported. A unit from Siddiquebazar and another from Tejgaon joined to help control the blaze.
A team from the Bangladesh Navy also worked to douse the blaze. They brought the fire under control around 2:39pm, said the fire official.

The fire started in the hospital’s fourth-floor Cardiac Department. It spread panic among the patients and their relatives, and many evacuated the building.
Md Fakhruddin, Senior Station Officer (SSO) of Mohammadpur Fire Station, said that, upon reaching the hospital at 1:55pm, firefighters found fire in the the ICU unit of the Cardiac Department.
He added that they evacuated patients and several other people from the location before they started extinguishing the fire.
Hospital Director Dr Jahangir Alam said, “A fire broke out on the fourth floor of B Block, but it has been successfully contained. Each floor on B Block houses an ICU, including the one where the fire originated. Thankfully, all the patients have been safely relocated to other areas.”
Md Saleh Uddin, deputy director of Dhaka Division of Fire Service and Civil Defence, said, “No casualty has been reported in this incident yet.”
The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.
