Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said that the film industry can play a big role in building a developed nation through the spiritual development of the people.
He said this while addressing a function at the National Film Awards 2020 organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at Hall of Fame of Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Agargaon on Wednesday afternoon.
Dr Hasan said, “Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina the people's destiny has been developed and she is working towards building a developed nation through the spiritual development of the people. That is why the film industry can play a big role in the development of cultural movement and art-culture.
Regarding the beginning of the film industry in the country, the Information and Broadcasting Minister said, "Bangabandhu realized that the emancipation of Bengalis was not inherent in the Pakistani state system but they were hurting our culture, language and culture. Therefore, while he was the provincial industry minister, he introduced the Film Development Corporation Bill in the provincial council in 1958 with the aim of preserving the culture and development of the film industry in the town. From then on, the institutional journey of the film industry started in this country.”
“Since then many timeless films have been made and many films have played a role in our struggle for independence, in the struggle for independence and in the formation of post-independence countries”, said Hasan Mahmud.
The film industry, which has started its journey under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu, under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, will not only get back its golden days, but will also find a place in the world court, said the Information Minister.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was the chief guest at the event, joined from Ganobhaban and the Minister of Information and Broadcasting handed over the Film Award 2020 to the winners. Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Hasanul Haque Inu and Secretary of the Ministry Md. Maqbool Hossain spoke on the occasion. A total of 32 prizes were given in 27 categories on this day. Eminent artistes Anwara Begum and Raisul Islam Asad got the lifetime achievement awards-2020 for their enormous contributions to the film industry.
Gazi Rakayet has been given the best director award for his film 'Gor'. Siam Ahmed was awarded the best actor for leading role in film 'Bishwoshundori', while the best actress in leading role award-2020 went to Deepanwita Martin for film 'Gor'.
The best actor in supporting role award went to Fazlur Rahman Babu for film 'Bishwoshundori' while Aparna Ghose won the best supporting actress award for film 'Gondi'. Misha Sawdagor was awarded best actor in a negative role for film 'Bir'. Mugdhota Morshed Wriddhi won the best child artiste award for film 'Gondi'.
