Sajedul Awwal, filmmaker and researcher, has passed away (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un). He breathed his last at his residence on Thursday evening.
Confirming his father’s death, Sajedul Awwal’s son Ishrat Shamim Ananta said his father was hospitalized last month after being infected with Covid-19. He was later brought home after his COVID test came negative. Since then, he was feeling better.
“Suddenly on Thursday evening he told us he was feeling unwell and his breathing difficulty increased after a while. Then we called an ambulance. But within half an hour he left us.”
Cultural personality Nasir Uddin Yusuf told reporters that Sajedul Awwal is a significant name in the post-independence drama. “I directed the play ‘Fony Monsha’ written by him. Our drama organization was associated with ‘Dhaka Theater’ for a long time. His research on film has enriched us. He was a very talented researcher,” he added.
