The film and TV programmes produced by the trainees at the Bangladesh Film and Television Institute will give a message for the society as well as joy, will play a role in taking the society forward, said the Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud. At the same time, films and programs can show the way for the new generation to come out of the constant pursuit of fame and money in the society, he said.
The minister expressed this hope in a speech as the chief guest at a discussion and film exhibition organized at the Information Building auditorium at Kakrail in the capital on Monday afternoon under the slogan 'Nabatarang' on the occasion of the 8th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Film and Television Institute (BCTI).
BCTI Chief Executive Officer Md Abul Kalam Azad, Academic Council President Professor Dr Maqbool Hossain, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Chairman of the Board of Directors of BCTI AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, course director M Hamid and BCTI alumni President Mahbub Hossain addressed the meeting. Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Khan Mamata Hena Lovely MP, filmmaker Gazi Rakayet, senior officials of the ministry, film star Ferdous, Tarin Jahan and others took part in the programme.
Dr Hasan said the journey of private television started in her hands after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took charge of the country in 1996 by a people's verdict. Now there are 45 private TVs, there is a lot of employment. New life is also being given to the film industry. In this case, the Prime Minister has established BCTI to meet the training needs.
Referring to the quality of training imparted by BCTI, which was established in 2013, the Information Minister said, "The films of the trainees at this institute have been awarded nationally and internationally. Therefore, my congratulations to the BCTI concerned.”
The short, medium and long term training of BCTI is playing a very important role in making up-to-date films and television programs and that is why it has been decided to award a master's degree here, said the Minister.
Secretary Md. Maqbool Hossain in his speech informed about the future plans to enrich BCTI.
The guests handed over the mementos to eight film and TV producers selected from among the trainees. At the end of the program, 13 stories and documentaries were screened.
