The ongoing unrest in the country has led to delays in the release of several movies. Films such as 'Junglee', 'Nandini', and ' Nilachakra are among those affected. The film industry is struggling as theaters face a significant drop in audience numbers, causing many new releases to be postponed.
The unrest, which began with the quota reform movement and intensified with curfews, has drastically impacted cinema attendance. Many moviegoers are hesitant to return to theaters, leading producers to delay their film releases.
For instance, the film ' Nilachakra', starring Arifin Shuvoo and Mandira Chakraborty, was initially set to release soon after Eid. However, due to the current situation, its release has been pushed to late September or possibly even March next year if the situation does not improve. Director Mithu Khan mentioned that the audience might not be ready to return to theaters soon, affecting the film's release plans.
Similarly, 'Junglee', directed by M Rahim, was scheduled for a September release but has now been postponed indefinitely. M Rahim expressed concern that the unrest and anxiety in the country would deter people from visiting cinema halls.
Other films, including 'Nandini', 'Amanush Holo Manush', and 'Biye Ami Korbo Na', have also seen their release dates pushed back. Some producers worry that the delays will lead to a bottleneck of film releases in the future, potentially causing financial losses.
Kamal Mohammad Kibria, a senior member of the Producers Association, shared concerns about potential revenue losses due to these delays. He noted that the current situation leaves little choice but to adjust release plans and wait for more stable conditions.
