Filmmakers, producers and artists have taken to the streets to protest against the vandalism ofsculpture of Father of the NationBangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. They formed a human chain in front of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC) at Karwanbazar area in the city on Sunday protesting against the seditious activities of anti-liberation evil forces.
The human chain was organized by the Film Directors Association at 11:30 am. It was attended by, among others, filmmaker Omar Sunny, filmmaker Moushumi, board of directors’ president Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, Shah Alam Kiran, Apurba Rana, producer KhorshedAlamKhasru, Kamal KibriaLipu, Mehedi Hasan Siddiqui Monir, Kamal Patekar, singer SD Rubel.
“Bangabandhu is the architect of Bangladesh. How dare they vandalise his sculpture,” said Moushumi. Producer leader KhorshedAlamKhasru said, "Those who have broken the sculpture ofBangabandhu must facepunishment. There is no alternative. "
Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, president of the board of directors, said, "This is not tolerable in independent Bangladesh. Bangabandhu has brought freedom to the country, he is the architect of Bangladesh, to hit his sculpture means hitting Bangladesh as well. Those who have done this are anti-liberation forces. Law enforcement agencies should find out those anti-nationals and give exemplary punishment.”
At the same time, the participants demanded immediate action against the demolition of the sculpture and measures to prevent any other architecture from being demolished.
Last Friday night, part of the sculpture of Bangabandhu under construction at the intersection of five roads in Kushtia was demolished. From then on, protests against the demolition of sculptures began across the country.
