Freedom Fighter Azizul Islam Bachchu (70) was laid to rest with the state honour in her village Nabinagar at Brahmanbaria on Saturday afternoon.
He was the former Vice President of Nabinagar Press Club and an affluent businessman in Nabinagar bazaar.
His namaz-e-janaza was held at the premises of Nabinagar Government High School ground at around 11:30am. Several thousand people, including Upazila Nirbahi Magistrate Mohammad Masum attended the funeral.
Local MP Mohammad Ebadul Karim Bulbul, Upazila Chairman Mohammad Monirzaman Monir, former Deputy Commander of Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad Shamsul Alam Sarkar, Press Club President Mahabub Alam Liton, General Secretary Asaduzzaman Kallol, local journalists, businessmen of Nabinagar Bazar, family members and locals were also present.
Nabinagar Municipality Mayor Shiv Shankar Das and Nabinagar Police Station OC Prabhas Chandra Dhar also took part. His body was buried at Sohata Cemetery after the second janaza at Sohata village in Nabinagar municipal area, the village home of the deceased after Zohar.
Azizul Islam Bachchu had been undergoing treatment at Dhaka Mugda General Hospital since he suddenly fell ill a few days ago. He died on Friday night while undergoing treatment.
