The ferry service from Shimulia in Munshiganj to Kanthalbari in Madaripur has returned to normal. After being closed for 10 hours, the ferry service has resumed from 5:30 am on Friday.
Due to strong currents in the Padma, the ferry service was stopped at around 7:30 pm on Thursday.
Safayet Ahmed, BIWTC manager at Shimulia Ghat, said the ferry service on the Shimulia-Kanthalbari route had started on Friday with the launch of four small ferries. However, due to the strong current of the Padma, the ferry traffic is being disrupted. Many are crossing the river by ferry. There are not many vehicles waiting at Shimulia Ghat. However, there is a crowd of passenger vehicles waiting at Kanthalbari Ghat.
BIWTA’s naval inspector Soleiman said launches have been operating since morning. Number of passengers is also high.
