The ferry movement in between Aricha-kazirhat route in the river Jamuna and Paturia-Daulatdia in the Padma have been remaining suspended from the midnight on Saturday, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Paturia Ghat officials said.
"Dense fog blanketed the Aricha-Kazirhat river route on the river Jamuna, forcing us to suspend the ferry movements at 9.25 pm on Saturday and Paturia-Daulatdia route on the Padma from 10.20 pm BIWTC Paturia Ghat Deputy General Manager (DGM) Shah Mohammad Khaled Newaz said.
Officials said the fog simultaneously forced suspension of movement of other vessels like engine-run country boats and launches both the river routes.
BIWTC, DGM Khaled Newaz said two ferries Begum Sufia Kamal and Shah Ali are in the middle in the river Jamuna loaded with vehicles and passengers, other ferries are waiting at Aricha Ghat and Kazirhat, while three ferries Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin, Shaheed Barkat and Rojonigandha are remaining at Paturia Ghat loaded with vehicles and passengers, while Birshreshtha Jahangir, Bonolota, Shah Jalal and Faridpur are at Daulatdia Ghat and Shah Poran, Birshreshtha Motiur, Shah Mokdum and Hasna Hena are remaining on anchor at the middle of the
river Padma.
