FBCCI for strengthening UN-Bangladesh ties

FBCCI President  Md. Jashim Uddin said the strategic partnership at different levels and establishing rapport with people and the Government have made United Nations in Bangladesh a trusted and valued development partner.

‘We acknowledge that UN system is working with the people and Government of Bangladesh to create a more sustainable, peaceful, innovative and resilient economy, environment and society’, he mentioned. 

President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FBCCI) was addressing a conference on “New World New Hope: United Nations and Bangladesh” held at the NYPD Center, New York on Thursday as guest speaker.

The Conference was organized by the Center for Non Residence Bangladeshi (NRB) in cooperation with the New York Police Department (NYPD) as the sideline event of 76th UN General Assembly (UNGA) on Thursday.

Mentioning Bangladesh’s long history of partnership with the United Nations, FBCCI President stated that the country has participated generously in the UN peacekeeping and has made many other significant contributions including initiating the annual UNGA resolution on a 'culture of peace' and as a founding member of both the Peace Building Commission and the Human Rights Council.

He also said Bangladesh’s contribution to the UN Peacekeeping is a story of glory and success. The foot prints of Bangladeshi peacekeepers are now evident in almost all the troubled areas of the world.

UNGA, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, delivered his historic speech in Bangla’, it ushered in fresh ideas and policies to build a brave new world, free of economic inequalities, social injustice and threats of the nuclear war", Jashim added.

FBCCI Chief acknowledged that as the major development partner, the UN agencies have been supporting Bangladesh in various development projects specially in the fields of sustainable development solutions, poverty alleviation, disaster management, environment, climate change, children & mother’s development, immunization, youth development, empowerment of women, education, industrial development, capacity development, health care and research, etc.

He also said the ongoing pandemic situation and despite many limitations, under the visionary and dynamic leadership of our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, stability has been maintained in the macroeconomic management of the country.

‘The Covid-19 pandemic impacted Bangladesh's economy severely. With the right policies and timely interventions by the Government, Bangladesh accelerated its recovery from the economic downturn and continue to progress towards further development’, FBCCI President mentioned.
