Fauzia Samad had devoted her whole life in welfare of women

‘Samad-Fawzia Sahosi Nari Award’ handed over

The 8th death anniversary of Begum Fauzia Samad, a woman legendary of the country, was observed. 

On the occasion, a memorial meeting was held at Dhaka Ladies Club recently. 

At the event, Samar-Fawzia Foundation presented the `Samad-Fawzia Sahosi Nari Award-2019’ including a cheque of TK. 01 (one lac) as financial donation with a crest to Biker Shahnaz Akhter Putul, handed over by Foundation’s Chairperson Sabrina Samad Firozi.

The function was attended by the member of foundation’s trustee board Barrister Moin Alam Firozi and current President of Dhaka Ladies Club Rumjhum Kabir and former president Gulshan Ara Haque Bela, vice-president Poet Asma Abassi and many other members of Kusumkoli School including some students. 

Begum Fauzia Samad, wife of late MA Samad, founder of Bangladesh General Insurance Company (BGIC) Limited and mother of Towhid Samad, incumbent Chairman of BGIC, dies at a hospital in Singapore on April 25 in 2011.

She devoted her whole life in welfare of women of the country. She had been serving as president of Dhaka Ladies Club for 38 years till her death.

She had also played a vital role in establishing BGIC from the very beginning from behind. She along with her husband MA Samad had established a magazine named ‘Minar’ in 1949 for the children and youth of the country.

Later, it had been collected and published in book-form titled ‘Minar Samagra’. 

This publication contributed a lot to our Bengali literature and language movement of 1952, inspiring the speed of tasks. Fauzia Samad was born in an aristocrat Muslim family of Sylhet in 1929.
