A youth was killed by his father due to family dispute in Bijoynagar Upazila of Brahmanbaria district on Monday. The father was detained by the police in connection with this incident.
The deceased was identified as Enayetullah, 30, son of Jaynal Abedin, resident of Schoolpara area at Moheshpur village under Bishnupur union in Bijoynagar Upazila of the district.
The incident of the altercation occurred at around 5:00pm on Sunday in Maheshpur area under Bishnupur union of the Upazila. Enayetullah died in Baricha area under Narsingdi district on early Monday while he was being taken to Dhaka.
It was learnt that Enayetullah was an expatriate. He came back to the country a few days ago as he was not able do well abroad. After coming to the country, he got involved in various family disputes. Enayetullah was a drug addict. There was often chaos in the family because of money for drug. For the last few days, he started pressuring his father to buy a battery-run auto rickshaw. There was an argument between them on Sunday afternoon centering this issue. Later, the family members beat him. At one point of the beating, Jaynal Abedin hit his son on his head with an iron rod.
Later, the locals rescued Enayet and took him to Brahmanbaria General Hospital. The doctor sent him to Dhaka for better treatment. Later, Enayet died in Baricha area under Narsingdi district at around 2:00am when he was being taken to Dhaka.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bijoynagar police station Mohammad Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter. He said the son was killed by his father over family feud. The father accused in connection with this incident was detained on Monday noon. The body was sent to Brahmanbaria General Hospital for autopsy. Legal measures are being taken regarding this incident, he added.
