Fashion is an art devoted to the design of clothing and use of different accessories created within the cultural and social influences of a specific time.
Dialing back the hands of clock, we witness developments in the fashion industry from the days of Cleopatra till today. Egyptians usually made their clothes from locally-sourced materials. Rich Egyptians were able to afford good quality linen cloths with decorations and accessories while commoners wore a wrap round skirt tied to their waist with a belt.
Being at the center of the legendary Silk Route, the Ottomans had distinctive elements which are still embedded in present day Turkish Culture. Sultans would have nothing less than Kaftans provided with their traditional headgears which would include a Fez or one wrapped with a thin scarf. Women usually wore robes with royalties wearing a kaşbastı (a diadem with a precious stone at the center) indicating their rank.
From the S-Bend Corset of the Victorian Era to the skinny jeans worn by the Kardashians, our experiment with fashion has just begun with many more to come after us. Trends go in and out of fashion a lot. While we are busy setting new trends ones or twice through history we see old fashion re-emerging once again to recapture its old glory.
