Farooq donates 5,000 rare books

Farooq Pradhan, a poet from Rangpur is well known for collecting books. He has collected about five thousand valuable and very rare books. He dreams that if everyone develops the habit of reading books, a beautiful society will be built. He donated the books he had collected throughout his life at the Rangpur Book Museum. He handed over the books to the museum's founder Zakir Ahmed at his residence on Friday afternoon. 

Farooq Pradhan was given a certificate of gratitude on behalf of the museum.

Going to the house of Farooq Pradhan, a resident of Dhap area of Rangpur city, one can see only books and books inside his old house. There are many valuable and rare books lying on the floor of the house, some old cupboards, sacks of book can be everywhere. He said that many books were destroyed due to the floods last year, some books were destroyed by rats or insects. 

Farooq Pradhan is a name of love for the literary people of this region. Many of the young and middle generation know him as ‘Guru’. 

  Farooq Pradhan's brother Golam Rabbani Pradhan said he started reading and collecting books from the time, he was in 6th grade. Poetry is great. He was very ill for some time. After advanced treatment in Dhaka, he is now quite healthy. 

He used to read books at home all the time. At one point, he decided to donate the books he had collected throughout his life to the Rangpur Book Museum to give others a chance to read. Poet Farooq Pradhan said, "It is only possible to build a beautiful society if we can develop the habit of reading books among all." 

Therefore, it has not been decided to give the books collected from the whole life to the Rangpur Book Museum without leaving them at home.'

The journey of Rangpur Book Museum started in March 2021 with some books by eminent author and researcher Matiur Rahman Bosnia. Literary activist and organizer Zakir Ahmed is trying to build this specialized book museum with his own efforts. He has already come a long way in this work. 

The museum will have Rangpur authors, books related to Rangpur and other books and these books will be used by people for research work. It will be established at Laskarbari in South Mominpur of Rangpur Sadar Upazila. Zakir Ahmed said that the poet Farooq Pradhan was very happy to hear about such an initiative. He immediately promised to donate all the books in his collection to the Rangpur Book Museum. Accordingly, he handed over the books in a short ceremony at his ancestral home in Dhapastha, Rangpur city.

Prominent poet and novelist Rana Masud, eminent journalist and City Press Club, Rangpur President Swapan Chowdhury, General Secretary Humayun Kabir Manik, Chharakar Shariful Alam Apu, Poet Farooq Pradhan's brother Golam Rabbani Pradhan, Golam Sadiq Pradhan, Golam Sabbir Pradhan and page release Its officials Shahriar Shayan, Tafsirul Islam, Soukhin Babu and others were present.
