Although there is a good yield of jute this year in Rajbari, due to the lack of rain, the jute plants are drying up in the fields due to the strong sun. Due to the inability to harvest jute on time, there is extreme frustration among the farmers.

Occasional sprinkles of rain are insufficient compared to the requirement. Due to the lack of water in the canal, jute is not being fed. Farmers are in extreme danger.

Out of compulsion, some farmers have started to grow jute in the impure and stagnant water of various canals. Poor farmers' jute is drying up in the field due to high transport costs. As a result, the color of jute is becoming black. Due to which the farmers are not getting the desired price in the market. The agriculture department said that the mango plantation is going backwards due to not being able to cut jute.

The agriculture department said that due to the inability to cut jute, Aman plantations are lagging behind. Again, if the Aman crop goes back, the Rabi crop will also go back. As a result, the lack of rain is likely to have a negative impact on agriculture in the district.

On Monday (July 28 morning, various fields of Islampur union of Sadar upazila of Rajbari were spotted, most of the jute in these areas was not cut yet. He has left the side of the road. As the amount of belemati is high in the land, the jar of those fields have dried up. drying up

According to the Rajbari Agriculture Department, in the current season, jute has been planted on 49 thousand 122 hectares of land in the 5th upazila of Rajbari this year. Which is one thousand hectares more than last year. In the last two years, the farmers of this region have turned to jute cultivation after getting higher prices. In jute research, the cultivation of hardy Rabi-1 variety of jute has been done more. However, the farmers are eating himshim to save the orchards in this drought.

Talking to some farmers, jute seed planting starts from the end of March. And jute cutting starts from the end of June. Till the month of July, they cut jute and cleared the land and planted saplings and rice seedlings on that land.

Usually in Rajbari, jute is raised in low-lying areas and canals where water accumulates due to rainwater. But even though the month of July is ending this year, there has been no heavy rainfall in the district. Again there is no rainfall for more than 15 days. As a result, the little water in the low-lying areas and canals has also dried up. So due to lack of water the farmer is not able to grow jute. The situation is the same in five upazilas of Rajbari. Apart from this, the jute of the farmer is drying in the field due to heavy rains.

Many farmers are trying to raise jute with water in drains and ditches. However, the color of the jute is getting worse due to this way of soaking the jute in less water.

And bad color jute is being sold at 500 to 600 taka less than the market rate. Here also the farmers have to count the losses. Only 20 percent of the land has been jute cut in the district.

A few farmers can be seen washing jute. They say, the color of jute is not getting good with so little water. The colors are matching. Good jute is currently being sold in the market for between three thousand and three thousand two hundred taka. And our jute is selling for 2 thousand 500 to 2 thousand 600 taka. Even if the costs are the same, we are counting losses.

Rabiul Islam, a farmer of Islampur Union, said, I cultivated jute on 5 bigha land. I cut some jute and planted it in a pond next to the house. And there is no wake to wake up.

Bimal Sarkar, a farmer of Banih Union, said, "Earlier, I used to raise jute next to the farm every year. But there is no water. The heat of the sun is more than Chaitra month. At this time, we are busy cutting jute and planting paddy. No rain, no water, the fields are drying up. Rajbari Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Bahauddin Sek said, farmers are in big trouble with jute this year.

Most of the jute lands are under mango cultivation. So, if jute is not cut quickly, the Aman crop may be disrupted and if the Aman crop is delayed, the rabi crop will be affected. For this reason, we are advising the farmers to wake jute with little water without waiting. In this case, polythene or straw should be spread over the jute with soil and the jute should be submerged under water. There is no other way.
