Farmers eyeing bumper jute production in Jashore

Farmers and officials of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) are expecting a bumper production of jute in all six districts under Jashore Agriculture Zone during the current season.    

The six districts are-Jashore, Jhenidah, Magura, Khustia, Chuadana and Meherpur.

The DAE office sources said under the program, a target has been  

designed to produce 19.47 bells of jute from 1.62 lakh hectares  of land in six districts of the DAE Jashore DAE Zone.District wise jute cultivation follows as : 25,200 hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation with production target 2,94,840 bells of jute in Jashore, 22,840 hectares of land with production target 2,69,512 bells jute in Jhenaidah, 35,865 hectares of land with production target 4,41,140 bells jute in Magura,39,800 hectares of land with production target tonnes 4,77,600 bells jute in Kushtia, 16,720 hectares of land with production target 2,00,640 bells jute in Chuadanda and 21,962 hectares of land with production target 2,63,544 bells of jute in Meherpur.

Dr. Md. Eklachuddin, additional director of the DAE, Jashore Agriculture Zone , said the government through agriculture related departments, organisations  and institutions has taken ample steps to assist farmers in making the intensive golden fibre jute farming programme a complete success in the DAE zone.    

"The DAE, Bangladesh  Agriculture Development Corporation and other organisations provided quality  seeds of jute, agri-inputs and technical assistance to farmers,"  Eklachuddin said.    

Besides, commercial banks, including Bangladesh Krishi Bank and 

some NGOs disbursed easy-term agriculture loans among farmers to assist them  in farming jute successfully.    

"Cultivation of jute is expanding every year following repeated 

bumper production with lucrative prices in recent times changing the fortune  of many farmers both on the main lands and riverine chars areas across the  region," he said.

Growers have continued rendering field-level service to cultivate  jute on the fulfil the targeted land,farmers and officials sources said. 

The field-level officials and jute specialists of DAE have continued  

working to educate the jute growers for taking modern methods of the jute cultivation through using latest technologies and reducing production costs, Md. Rofiqul Islam, sub-assistant agriculture officer of the zone informed.
